about

This is for the fine folks at Jason's Deli in Allen TX. My precious Moleskine notebook promises a reward upon return -- not money, but a song of thanks, where the finder picks the genre (which is the reason I'm even attempting hip-hop).
There's also a YouTube video, because I promised.

lyrics

Sunshine
Lookin out steppin out
Into the daylight flooding the land after the waters receded
I knew what I needed
I heeded the call to fill my belly
With delectable fare you can only find at the deli on Main
No need to explain... yeah

Chowed down
Filled up, satisfied
I flung the doors wide forgetting that I'd neglected
Something I needed
Because I was greeted
And treated like a royal dignitary
Merry
Like a dromedary in the middle of the week
Now that's unique.

You picked up the discarded
Piece of my heart that
I didn't even know was missing
And you gave it back to me

Phone rings
Didn't recognize the number
Then the voicemail
Made me feel dumber and numb
But the shame
At hearing my name
Evaporated and made me elated
Today I was fated
Not to lose a thing
With the message you'd bring

You picked up the discarded
Piece of my heart that
I didn't even know was missing
And you gave it back to me
(Shout out to Jason's Deli)
You picked up the discarded
Piece of my heart that
I didn't even know was missing
And you gave it back to me
